Children and Young People

Children and Young people - access to the city and safe streets

Our vision is for a city where children and young people have full access - to play, education, work, culture, health services and more.

Manifesto commitments include:

  • making travel free for under-18s

  • remodelling our streets to prioritise active travel

  • more priority to public transport over cars - making public transport reliable

What do you think we should campaign on for young people? Come and talk with us and share your thoughts - if you are a young person over 14, a parent, a youth worker, teacher, foster carer, or in some other way connected with young people’s experience of travel in Bristol, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset or South Gloucestershire.

So far, youth workers have told us that:

  • fares are too expensive for young people

  • buses are too unreliable to get to school, job interviews, work, or health appointments on time

  • lack of buses within neighbourhoods (without going to centre) makes it hard to see friends and family who are a bit further away

  • blue badge bus passes are only valid after 9am - so no good for getting to school
